Selma Botman - Office of the President

President, University of Southern Maine

It’s wonderful being able to relax knowing you’re taking such good care of integrating and optimizing our digital presence.  Seriously.  I’m totally grateful for all you do and know everyone feels the same.  It’s great creating PK with you.

Kelly Merrill - PechaKucha Portland

Manager, Chronic Pain Advocacy Alliance,

As a representative from the Office of the President Joshua’s organizational skills lent toward the Women & Gender Studies Program 2011, Annual International History Month, assured capacity attendance for Dr. Elizabeth Nunez’ keynote presentation.  Organizing and managing Dr. Nunez’ itinerary while USM made her travel, teaching, and stay seamless.

Joshua’s technological skills in web and video production have increased the creation of educational materials available to students, faculty, and the metropolitan community.

Joshua’s organizational and managerial skills greatly benefited Dr. Christopher Lee’s work as a diversity consultant.  because of his inclusive and respectful understanding of the elements of diversity at USM, the spectrum of diversity programs, offices and projects Joshua brought to the table were authentic representations of the state of diversity at the university.

Gabriel Demaine - President's Council on Diversity

For the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of working closely with Joshua Gates in various capacities.  Whether as a manager, a mentor, or a colleague, he has continuously set an example for me in my career at the University of Southern Maine.  I knew few other people who work as hard or take pride in their roles as Joshua.  He has been a constant source or knowledge and encouragement as I learn the technical, administrative and political landscape of the university.

Joshua has never hesitated to offer assistance, be it posting communications on the president’s website, developing sites for special initiatives, helping with phone coverage or devoting several hours to making sure that the annual dean’s list is formatted appropriately.

Grateful for his help extended to USM Public Affairs, for the way in which he handles the multiple demands of his position and for the professionalism and sense of pride he brings to USM.
